Geografia

Geografia

The stationary and paper creations produced by geografia are, as the name already suggests, thematically based on the earth, geography, topography and urban studies. Wittily combining both fact, design and state-of-the-art printing techniques, the product range displays a sense of aesthetic and map mapping and simultaneously conveys an understanding of our planet's history.

Some clever products include sectional cardboard globes that stand at the exact angle of the earth's tilt, ringed notebooks featuring pre-planned urban layouts of different cities, and bookmarks in the shape of various lakes attached to a cord which resembles the adjoining river where it naturally flows in and out of the bodies of water. Furthermore, a series of memo blocks were devised which depict topographical phenomenons such as altitudes of sea level, stratum lines in earth layers and terraced cultivation of rice crops. The collection also includes a puzzle consisting of today's continents, the pieces of the Pangaea, and a glow-in-the-dark globe, highlighting the most inhabited and technologically advanced parts of the planet.

The masterminds behind these ingenious creations is the Tokyo-based design Studio Drill, Yusuke Hayashi and Yoko Yasunishi, specializing in product design, but also graphics, packaging and retail exhibition spaces. Their different approach and flexible problem-solving is partnered with the advanced printing facilities of Akio Okuda's Marumo Company. The geografia series was born out of this partnership in 2007 and since has been utilizing the latest techniques and design solutions to conceptualize this intelligent paper product and stationary line.
